Alarm scares burglars from Mayking store

Police don’t think anything was taken from a Mayking store that was broken into early Tuesday morning.

Someone forced entry into The Dollar General Store around 12:20 a.m. on January 8, according to Letcher County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Damron.

Damron said some of the merchandise had been rummaged through, but unless an inventory is done it is almost impossible to tell if anything was stolen.

“It doesn’t appear that they took anything now. The safe was fine,” said Damron.

He said it looked like the suspects ran after the store’s alarm was activated.

Damron said the damaged front door will need to be replaced. Damron has charge of the investigation. He was assisted by Jenkins City Police officer Anthony Maggard, who helped guard the store until it reopened Tuesday.

Anyone with information should call the Letcher County Sheriff’s Department at 633- 2293.
