All of Letcher County’s road deputies are now certified peace officers

It’s taken three years, but all of the road deputies in the Letcher County Sheriff ’s Office are now certified peace officers, Sheriff Mickey Stines announced Tuesday.

Alexis Stambaugh has completed her training at the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training Academy in Richmond and has returned to regular duty at the sheriff’s department.

“I have been blessed to send three deputies to the academy in the first three years,” Stines said in a written announcement of Stambaugh’s graduation. “While in the police academy they give the officer the skills to safely perform their duties. The training gives the deputies the skills to serve and protect the citizens to the best of their abilities.”

The department now has three patrol deputies, all of whom have completed the academy. One court bailiff will attend that academy beginning at the end of the month, but Stines said the others are trained.

Stines was a court bailiff prior to being elected and has taken the state’s training for sheriffs since the election.
