American Legion plan Memorial Day services




Letcher Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility began National Nursing Home Week with a Mother’s Day brunch on May 14th. Recognized were the oldest mother, Elsie Banks, 102, as well as the youngest mother, Darlene Ross, 46. Letcher County Judge/Executive Jim Ward signed a proclamation declaring and recognizing National Nursing Home Week May 14-20. He recited a poem, titled “A Mother’s Love”. Letcher County band Blast from the Past featuring Tributes performed at Letcher Manor Nursing Home Friday night and the Mountain Shrine Fest at the Isom fairgrounds Saturday night. Elvis, Johnny Cash, Conway Twitty, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings were some of the artists performed by the band.
