Appalachian Wireless warns of scam

Appalachian Wireless, a division of East Kentucky Network, LLC, says its customers have received bogus phone calls requesting personal account information because the caller says the customer has won money.

Gerald Robinette, Appalachian Wireless general manager and chief executive officer, says, “This is an absolute scam designed to obtain critical information from customers and is not affiliated, authorized, nor in any way associated with Appalachian Wireless. Customers are being contacted and informed they have won a sum of money. The caller then asks to verify account information and therefore obtains vital information. Appalachian Wireless customers are encouraged to hang up immediately and call our corporate office at Ivel at (800) 438-2355 and report any details of the call they receive.

“A customer’s information is considered sacred information by Appalachian Wireless,” said Robinette. “We have always taken every precaution to protecting this information and want to alert our valued customers of this obvious scam.”
