Appalshop Gallery hosts art by school system employees

The Appalshop Gallery at 91 Madison Avenue in Whitesburg is offering a display of art created by the employees of the Letcher County Public Schools. The works being exhibited include oil and watercolor paintings, photographs, mixed media, ceramics, graphic design, and a quilt. Artists contributing work to the exhibit include Anita Bentley, Doug Adams, Suzan Maddin, Dianna Holbrook, Greg Lynch, Pat Gilbert, Sarah Day, Phyllis Barker, Sherry Sexton, Jennifer Chadwell Boggs, Debra Fields, Jennifer Honeycutt, Jessica Ison, Billy Caudill, and Danielle Watts.

The Appalshop Gallery is open at no charge from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The art exhibit by Letcher County Public Schools employees will also be offered as part of the Letcher County Tourism and Convention Commission’s Artwalk 2009 on Saturday, May 9. The Artwalk will begin at the Appalshop Gallery at 5 p.m. that day.

The art display will be at the Appalshop Gallery through May. The Gallery will host a retrospective exhibit by the Appalshop Archive concerning 40 years of film making at Appalshop during June and July. A back-to-school exhibit of student artwork will be at the Appalshop Gallery during August and September.
