Applications accepted for Citizen’s Police Academy





The Kentucky State Police, Post 13, in Hazard is now accepting applications for the Citizen’s Police Academy. Those in the class will receive an in-depth look at the multiple aspects of the Kentucky State Police, as well as, an opportunity to interact with the troopers that work in their communities. Some of the topics that will be covered are patrol, criminal investigations, and drug investigations. Students will also get to take part in simulated traffic stops and evidence collection.

The 11-week academy will begin on October 27. The classes will be held on Tuesdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Kentucky State Police Post in Hazard. Some sessions may be conducted at alternate locations. The academy will not meet during the weeks of Thanksgiving and Christmas. The academy is set to conclude on January 19.

Anyone 18 years of age, or older, living within the Kentucky State Police, Post 13 District is welcome to apply. The KSP Post 13 District consists of Breathitt, Perry, Leslie, Knott, and Letcher counties. The class will be limited to 25 students. There is no cost to attend and participants must attend 80 percent of the classes to graduate. All applicants will be subject to a background check.

Once completed, applications can be mailed to Kentucky State Police, Post 13, Hazard, Attn: TFC Tony Watts, 100 Justice Drive, Hazard, KY 41701 or emailed to tony.watts@ky.gov. Applications must be submitted by Monday, October 19.
