To the Editor:

As a part of an ongoing collaboration, Appalshop and Headwaters, Inc. invite you to join us for the first in an ongoing workshop series — Water Works: Wetlands, Stormwater, and You. Learn about natural and cost-effective ways to manage storm water issues and prevent or fix common water-related problems in east Kentucky. We will be joined by Dr. Walter Smith of UVA-Wise, whose work to develop a constructed wetlands at UVA-Wise has provided the region with insight into cost-effective, beautiful storm water management, with an added connection to economic growth and ecotourism.

Appalshop and Headwaters staff will also discuss our exciting plans for spring 2020, including this speaking series, riverside planting days, green infrastructure/ rain garden installations, and further community opportunities to improve water quality in Letcher County and beyond. This event is the first of an ongoing series of Water Works workshops connecting community members to practical information and resources on caring for our land and waterways.

What: Water Works: Wetlands, Stormwater, and You. When: Wednesday, December 11, at 5:30 p.m. Where: Dawahares 109, downtown Whitesburg.
