ARH offers withdrawal help

The Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital Medical Center is now offering those living with addiction a local answer for drug and alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

Hazard ARH has contracted with Missouri-based New Vision to provide inpatient medical stabilization and withdrawal management services for patients who are experiencing problems and incapacitation due to substance use and/ or abuse.

“An important part of the ARH mission is not only to improve the health, but also improve the well-being of the residents living in the communities we serve. To do this, we regularly evaluate the needs of our community when adding new services,” said Dan Stone, Community CEO at Hazard ARH. “There is a significant need in our area for a service such as this to give those living with drug and substance abuse issues the resources they need to help overcome addiction and move forward with their lives.”

New Vision serves adults who are using or are experiencing acute withdrawal symptoms from certain drugs. It consists of a medically supervised hospital stay for inpatient stabilization that typically lasts three to five days.

New Vision has a fully qualified treatment team which includes a medical director and nursing personnel who use a multidisciplinary team approach in the individualized treatment of each patient.

The inpatient stay includes prescreening, assessment, admission, medical stabilization and discharge planning.

Upon a patient’s admission to Hazard ARH for medical stabilization, assessment of needs is first. The assessment includes a medical history, physical, a complete laboratory workup and a nursing assessment. Patients who are under the influence of chemical substances, and are considered medically unstable, will be closely observed and stabilized.

The diagnosis of need for inpatient admission can only be made by a licensed physician. The service accepts most insurance plans.
