ARH wins construction award

An awards competition sponsored by the Associated Builders and Contractors of Kentucky has recognized the renovation of an old Wal-Mart building into a regional medical mall as one of Kentucky’s top construction projects in 2008.

The Award of Excellence went to Appalachian Regional Healthcare and contractor/ designer Denham- Blythe Company Inc. of Lexington, for its role in transforming a 90,000-squarefoot facility in Hazard to host a variety of doctor offices, a rehabilitation center, pharmacy, Veteran Administration clinic, and home care stores.

Rated by an independent team of judges, the construction project was recognized for its craftsmanship, execution, complexity, safety, and unique factors. Denham-Blythe reshaped the building’s exterior, and on the inside, used curved partitions, dropped ceilings, an array of flooring materials, lighting and several sitting areas, among other ways, to break up and compartmentalize the space.
