Arts supporters to meet

Arts Kentucky, the statewide arts advocacy and service organization and Appalshop are hosting “The Election Connection”, an arts advocacy workshop related to the 2008 Kentucky General Assembly.

The free workshop will address how to advocate for arts issues, how to get your arts message across, and an “ask” to your state legislators to support the state’s art agency, the Kentucky Arts Council. The workshop is one of five being hosted around the state between now and January 31.

The workshop will be held on from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 16, at the Letcher County Tourism building (the old post office) on Main Street in Whitesburg. Artists, arts advocates, volunteers for the arts, and those who recognize the importance of arts in the community are invited to attend. Research from Americans for the Arts will be provided, detailing the number of employees and business in each House and Senate district and describing the impact of the arts in the region.

The workshop is free, but preregistration is requested at www.artsky.org. Participants will receive handouts, materials, and a CD with Americans for the Arts data.
