Attorney still wants murder trial moved

An attorney for one of two men charged in the January 1, 2014 stabbing death of Michael Hogg in downtown Whitesburg has asked Special Letcher Circuit Judge H. Kent Hendrickson to “alter, amend or vacate” his recent ruling that orders the trials of the two defendants to be held in Whitesburg.

Pikeville attorney Robert Wright had asked that the trial of his client, James R. Huffman IV, be moved outside of Letcher County, alleging that pretrial publicity would prevent Huffman from receiving a fair trial here.

Hendrickson overruled Wright’s motion and ordered the trials of Huffman and Patrick Smith to start October 3 and continue through October 14.
