August is month for reunions

We’re still having some very hot weather here in the mountain, which has made for some high electric bills.

A nice birthday get-together was held for Lillie Moss Hale on Sunday evening. All of her brothers and sisters were there, and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends came out to wish her a happy day. The party was held in Tommy Harris Smith’s building, below Lillie Moss’s apartment.

Kenneth and Tony Blair and their sisters, Lorene and Carol, were all there. The girls are from Indiana and Ohio, and are going to stay here for a week or so to visit.

Coleman and Martha Sue Blair and Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Blair have returned from a vacation at North Myrtle Beach, S.C., and reported having a good trip.

This past weekend was the Green Blair family reunion, held at Blackey.

It was also the Stuart Robinson School Reunion this past Saturday. I think there were a hundred or so former students at the old school campus, and I’m sure all enjoyed seeing former classmates and friends.

Homer, Ruth and Anthony Smith went to the Hampton family reunion in Ohio last weekend.

A fair crowd of about 200 family and friends attended the Adams, Thompson and Blair reunion and church service last Friday evening. But then on Saturday, all were saddened to learn that Reneva Adams Hayes had died. Her husband, children and grandchildren, brothers and sisters and friends all have our sympathy for their loss.

Her funeral was held Tuesday at the Blair Branch Church, and she was laid to rest in Powell Valley, Va. Reneva was the daughter of the late Arthur and Helmer Adams of Blair Branch.

Hobert and Danny Cupps were at the reunion on top of Blair Branch. Hobert’s son and Danny’s wife were with them. We didn’t know that Danny had lost a son and grandson in 2008.

Russell and Connie Blair are enjoying a visit from their grandson, Austin. He loves to visit and enjoys watching the roosters and hens, and making them his friends.

This Sunday will be the memorial meeting at the cemetery on top of Elk Creek.

Saturday, Richard and Libby Smith had a wienie roast and bluegrass music for those in the neighborhood. It sounded like they had a good get-together.
