I hope everyone is staying warm during this cold weather. I got my electric bill this week and it is so high I think I am going to have to resort to some other kind of heat. I would say coal, but someone said it is about $100 a ton and gas is so high I know I can’t afford that, so I guess I will just complain about my electric bill and turn the thermostat down and see if that helps. Which I would say it won’t.
I know someone who has an empty house and the bill there was over $500. Now come on, Kentucky Power, there is no way an electric bill can be that high with no one living in a house. I think it is time we contact our State Representative or our Governor and see if they can help us with this situation. Or move into a cave and live the rest of the winter.
I went to a baby shower for Tabitha Fox last Sunday at the community center, and there was a good turnout despite the cold weather and slick side roads. Her baby is due in February. Good luck, Tabitha, and I hope God blesses you with a healthy baby boy.
This was a good snow for sleigh riding and lots of children in Hemphill took advantage of it despite the cold temperatures. I had several children in my yard today and treated them to soup, grilled cheese, brownie bites with Reece Cups and hot chocolate afterwards.
Belated birthday wishes to Bobbie Seals from Hemphill.
Prayers and get well wishes go to John Wayne Stewart, who is in the hospital, and to Paul Fleming who fell off a ladder and crushed his heel. I hope your surgery goes okay and you have a quick recovery.
Please pray for my best friend Yvonne Bentley. We will be going this week to Kingsport for pre-op and she will have knee surgery the first of February. I just hope the weather doesn’t get too bad on the day she has to go.
My condolences to the family of Jack Branham Sr. of McRoberts. I know how hard it is to lose a loved one. My prayers are with all of you.
When I woke up on Saturday morning I couldn’t believe how much snow we had and how hard it was coming down. Just think, we are just now getting into winter so there is plenty more yet to come. It was absolutely beautiful.
I just hate when the roads get slick. We got approximately 11 inches before it was over. I am ready for warm weather flip-flops, swimming and baseball games.
Not much going on this week, and hopefully I will have more news from Hemphill next week. Stay warm, and please check on your friends and neighbors. If you know someone who lives alone or is sick, check on them to make sure they are okay. Remember your pets; when it is this cold out take care of them. May God bless and keep you safe.
