Band wins at competition







The Letcher County Central High School Band competed in the McChesney Band Festival in Big Stone Gap, Va., Saturday. The band placed first in Class AA-2 in all categories — band, flag corps, percussion and drum major. It finished fourth in parade, received a Division I rating, and won the Reserve Grand Champion trophy, finishing second overall in all classes. John I. Burton High School finished first, and Lee High School was third. LCCHS was the only Kentucky band in the competition. LCCHS will host the second annual Letcher County Marching Invitational beginning at 2 p.m., Saturday, at LCCHS, and the band will march its award-winning show at the end of the competition.
