A reenactment of the Battle of Leatherwood will take place on Oct. 24-26.
The event will kick off on Friday with an Education Day for regional schools. Demonstrations of pioneer living activities, such as soap or salt making, a period school and a general store will take place, as well as Civil War demonstrations of weapons, a cannon, campsite, mapmaker, and undertaker.
Saturday events begin at 9 a.m. with weapons demonstrations, craft demonstrations, the ladies’ tea at noon, a battle at 2 p.m. and other festivities throughout the day, ending with a grand ball at 7 p.m. Sunday events include a church service at 10 a.m., a battle at 2 p.m., and closing ceremonies after the battle.
The events are all free and open to the public. Period Civil War music will be performed throughout the event, at the ladies’ tea, and at the ball. All dances will be called for those who are inexperienced. Everyone is welcome.
The reenactment will take place across the creek from the Leatherwood Blackey Health Clinic. Sutlers (merchants selling period items), food booths and other merchants will be on site. Reenactor registration and event information is available at the Brashearville General Store.
