Betty Lou Downey dies at 77



Betty Lou Downey, 77, of North Vernon, Ind., passed away at 6:34 a.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the North Capitol Nursing and Rehab Center in Indianapolis, IN.

Mrs. Downey was born Dec. 21, 1936 in Letcher County, the daughter of James and Pearlie Stallard Craft. She married Clifford Downey and was married for 48 years. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Downey was a North Vernon High School graduate. She was a member of the Ladies’ VFW in North Vernon and worked at Dolly Madison/Saps in Columbus, Ind., for 30 years. Her enjoyments include reading, puzzles, bingo, going to church, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, James Downey and wife Brenda of North Vernon, Ind.; two daughters, Lisa Gilbert and husband John of North Vernon, Ind., and Cathlee Feltner and husband Chad of Commiskey, Ind.; four brothers, Roy Craft, Billy Craft, and Dennis Craft of North Vernon, Ind., and Kenneth Craft of Dupont, Ind.; three grandchildren, Emilee Wheatley of Paris Crossing, Ind., and Tabitha and Camden Feltner of Commiskey, Ind.; and nine great grandchildren, Cody Short, Destiny Young, Chaz, Diamond, and Deven Coan, Shawn Warner, and Shane Warner all of North Vernon, Ind., and Brooklynn and Kennedy Wheatley of Paris Crossing, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clifford, and a sister-in-law, Sue Craft.

The funeral for Mrs. Downey was at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 29, at the Dove – Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services. The visitation was from 4 – 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 28, at the Dove – Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services and one hour prior to the funeral on Monday. Burial was in Vernon Cemetery.
