Hopefully by the time this paper comes out, we will know who our elected President is. I heard the other day because of absentee ballots just having to be postmarked by Nov. 3, we won’t have them in in time to declare a winner. I remember one year, the year George Bush and Al Gore were the choices, it was a long time before we knew who won because of the paper ballots in certain states. I’m so glad we voted last month because I have heard there are lines now to vote. I hope everybody knows how important it is and is able to get out and vote.
One of our family’s very good friends, and also a friend to the whole county and beyond, Billie June Richardson, had surgery on her ankle. Her daughter Celesta Riffe kept us updated on Facebook and this was the last post:
“ UPDATE: Dr Sorce drilled multiple holes in multiple directions to get a good blood flow. But he did get a great blood flow. She had no cartilage so they are hoping the blood flow and stem cells (next procedure) will generate new growth.”
Billie June has been having major pain in that ankle and they found out there was no blood flow, so this surgery was done on Monday the 2nd. She cannot put any weight on that foot for awhile. Keep her and her family in your prayers. This is Preacher Bill and June Craft’s daughter.
On Oct. 20 Betty Kincer had back surgery and is recovering very slowly. Her daughter Tammy Kincer- Fugate wanted everyone to remember her in your prayers.
Michelle Webb, Laney Webb’s mom posted this update from Laney’s appointment:
“She had a scope run down and they saw that she has a lot of acid in her stomach, this could have something to do with her not eating. She had an EKG done a week ago at the other appointment but we just got the results back and there has been no change compared to the last one she had, so praise God.
“She saw the dentist on her appointment last week and they agreed she had some major stuff going on, chemo wasn’t good on her teeth so they booked us a week later for the O.R. on Friday, Oct. 30, Laney had seven teeth pulled and all the rest was capped. The good thing is every tooth she has is a baby tooth, but we were all concerned that the chemo was so hard on her teeth. Would her permanent teeth even come in or could they be damaged too? They did an X-ray while they had her sedated and she is showing permanent teeth in place. Please pray they are healthy and not damaged. She’s doing good, already back to eating her suckers/lollipops, but as she calls them ice cream. Please when you pray, recognize Our Heavenly Father for everything he has done for Laney. Please pray for the other children and families still fighting.”
There were many birthdays this past week. A few of these are Betty Banks Lucas and Martina Yonts on the 30th of October, Angela Hatton celebrated on the 28th, and Debbie Miles Lester and her uncle Charles Howard both had birthdays on the 2nd of November. Lisa Adams celebrated on the 31st. My friends Bob and Debbie Smith’s little grandbaby turned 3 on the 1st of November.
Mom and I had a surprise phone call Monday. The ID said Jack Burkich and I was kinda skittish about answering thinking it was a scammer using his number. Turns out he was looking for the water company. Our numbers must be similar. We had a nice little talk catching up on each other’s health. I used to see him almost every morning at the rec center before the virus hit. I hear he still goes in the mornings. I usually go in the late evenings, so I haven’t seen him since March. He sounded as spry as ever.
Okay, I’ll close here by reminding you all to pray for all those that have lost loved ones, especially our pastor Bill Jones and his family.
Then I’ll remind you, as Oma Hatton did every week, to try to attend church Sunday. If you are looking for a good place to worship you can join us at Letcher Independent Baptist on Jeremiah. We are all wearing masks and social distancing.
