Billie M. Bates, 82, died Friday, August 16.
Born in Letcher County to the late Barzella and Medra Polly Bates, he was the father of the late Billie M. Bates, Jr., and a brother of the late Bartie Bates.
He was a retired but had been a manager for IBM for 31½ years and later in life restored antique cars. He was a member of the Model A Restorers Club and Blue Grass AACA.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, Judith Bates, he is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Stoll and husband Steve of Lexington, and Rhonda Frazier and husband James of Birmingham, Ala.; four grandchildren, Stephen Stoll II, Lauren Whitten, Ashley Bowker and Jared Frazier; five great-grandchildren, Camden Whitten, Aiden Whitten, Ryan Whitten, Reese Bowker, and Aria Bowker; a sister, Joe Ann Eversole of Jenkins; and a brother, Don Bates of Missouri.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, at Clark Legacy Center at Brannon Crossing in Nicholasville. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass. www.clarklegacycenter.com.
