Billy Joe Smith succumbs at 74

BILLY JOE SMITH

Billy Joe Smith, 74, of Elk Creek, died August 19 at the James H. Quillen VA Center in Johnson City, Tenn.

He was a son of the late Herman and Thelma Craft Smith.

Surviving are his wife, Shannon Dixon Smith; three sons, Joseph “Beau” Smith and wife Michelle of Lexington, Zachary Smith and wife Robin of Doty Creek, and Andrew Smith and wife Angel of Blackey; a daughter, Sara Eldridge and husband James of Elk Creek; a brother, Ray Smith of Carcassonne; 10 grandchildren, Chloe, Elizabeth, Ellie, Sophie, Clayton, Caleb, Lela, Emma, Arwyn, and Josiah; and a great-grandchild, August.

A private memorial service will held at a later date.
