Billy K. Banks, 82, of Whitesburg, died November 18 at Pikeville Medical Center.
Born in Dry Fork to the late James and Ida Stallard Banks, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran, and an educator for 33 years.
He was an avid University of Kentucky sports fan, and enjoyed fishing, gardening, and working in his wood shop.
Mr. Banks was a member of the Hemphill Church of Christ for 40 years, a member of the Letcher County Soil Conservation ground, and an honorary Kentucky Colonel.
He was preceded in death by seven siblings, Challiss Banks, James Edwin Banks, Harlan Clay Banks, Jackson Dafoe Banks, Malesa Fae Banks, Rosalee Tyree, and Elsie Aouate.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Irene Potter Banks; a son, Billy James Banks of Whitesburg; a daughter, Beth Ann Pennington and husband Jon of UZ; a brother, Charles Ernest Banks of Dry Fork; two sisters, Josephine Banks of Dry Fork and Dorthy Elizabeth Bolling of Covington; four grandchildren, Kristen Brooke Phipps, Mathew James Phipps, Fiona Paige Banks, and Hannah Faith Pennington; and friend, Joe Oden of Texas.
Funeral services for Mr. Banks were held November 21 at Everidge Funeral Home in Whitesburg. Burial was in the Bony Banks Cemetery at UZ.
