The 2013 Rotary Club of Whitesburg Scholarship of $1,000 was presented to Billy Gene Mullins, son of Billy and Charlotte Mullins of McRoberts, by Rotary President Larry Whitaker on Aug. 6.
Mullins was graduated from Jenkins High School in May as salutatorian of his class with a 4.14 grade point average and a composite ACT score of 31. While in high school, he took dual credit classes at the University of Pikeville, served as co-captain of the academic team, held membership in the Interact Club and was a 2012 representative for the Letcher County Tourism Mountain Heritage Festival. He will attend Morehead State University in the fall and plans to major in business .
The scholarship is given on academic achievement, community service, participation in school activities and financial need. The scholarship is awarded annually to a college student who is working on his or her first degree.
