Birthday brought a fantastic week

Northeast Ohio

Here it is Thursday already and time for me to try to write a few words. Time is just going too fast, can hardly keep up. Trust everyone had a good week and all are well and happy.

I must say I had a fantastic week and you probably know why if you read what my secretary added to one article. I did not put my birthday in, purposely left it out, but I must thank her as this was one of my best days ever. I received scads of beautiful cards and the phone rang constantly. I really want to thank everyone for the cards and calls.

It all started Sunday when Bill and Redia came by after church with dinner and some new clothes that fit (needed small and xsmall). It’s hard to find petite sizes that are long enough.

Monday started out with Larry and Patsy singing “Happy Birthday” from their car, got a gorgeous vase of roses delivered from a dear friend and our girl Liz. Catharine came by with a birthday cake then later Richard, Georgia, Rick, Joyce, Lauren, Jordan, Brandon, Bailee with boyfriend and of their girlfriends. Then Debbie, Billy, Cassie and boyfriend and Ben. Got another beautiful bouquet of flowers and a box of donuts. Just like a party.

Had to take a short break, which has now become a daily ritual and not only one but throughout the day. Have gotten to be a real lazybones.

I am now fixing us a country dinner, but not a big one, just mixed pickles, fried ‘taters and cornbread and I’m having a glass of cold buttermilk. Red will have cornbread with butter. I just fix what I think we will eat.

Wednesday, Red and I both had doctor’s appointments and, yep, we are both still up and plugging along though very slowly. Our next appointments are two months away. Yesterday was also Jettie’s birthday and Joyce and I went to North Ridgeville and spent a couple hours with her. Jettie is really doing very well.

Haven’t talked to Bill or Redia today. I do know Bill is working at the store and Redia was expecting company from Columbus. Her friend, Mary Turner, who was Redia’s bridesmaid, was coming up to spend a few days.

Right now I would love to visit Letcher County and see just how beautiful the mountains, hillsides and everything else are looking. Everything is gorgeous here, but it’s so much earlier down home.

Hope everyone enjoyed spring break and I’m hoping lots of you are planning to attend the Engle-Sergent Picnic. It isn’t just for Engles and Sergents but friends as well and anyone who would like to join us. It will be Sunday, August 12, from noon to 4:30 p.m. at Hill Top Park in Elyria, Ohio. See you there? If you play and instrument, do bring it. If you sing, tuck your voice in a pocket and bring it along. And don’t forget to bring your appetite as there’s food, food, food and more food. Haven’t heard just when the Letcher County Picnic will be this year. Soon as I get the date will publish it.

Anyone started gardening yet? I’m still thinking on it. If I do decide, it will be a very small one, just some beans and ‘maters to eat on. No more trying to freeze beans, too much work and I really don’t think I can do it this year.

I’d better quit, I seem to be making too many mistakes and Catharine will have to clean up. She sure has a lot of editing to do.

Wishing all a happy and healthy week.

Love and prayers to all.
