We are now taking orders for Thanksgiving additions to your feast. You can call or send your order by private message to our page or call. Special orders must be prepaid to be added to our list. You may prepay with your card over the phone. We are ready to bake it up for you.
We have two new partnerships. (1) We have partnered with Fast FUD to deliver. They will deliver your order for $7 within 15 miles of Black Sheep Bakery. If you live farther than 15 miles away, don’t fret. They charge just 25 cents for each additional mile. Just call and place your order and they will pick it up and bring it to your doorstep or workplace. It’s a great service. They always wear gloves and a mask and contactless delivery can be arranged by asking. (2) We are partnering with Faith Life Market of Pikeville to provide baked goods to complement their great coffee drinks. We bake for them each week. We are excited about these new possibilities in the new economy.
Our hours are Thursday and Friday from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.. Pizza is not available until 4:30 p.m. on those days as it takes that long for the oven to heat back up. Remember we are cooking with wood in a primitive oven. There is no temperature control dial so we cannot turn it up or down. We are cooking the ancient way. We are subject to Mother Nature’s whims.
In an effort to have some sense of normalcy in this crazy time we have resumed Friday Nite Supper Club. The bakery will be open so purchase your supper and enjoy it outside. Logan Stanley and Jarrod Church will be picking outside from 6 to 8 p.m. Open mic is from 6:45 to 7:15 p.m. All are welcome. We ask that you wear a mask and bring a chair. Please social distance and respect the space of others. There is an increase in COVID-19 cases in our community so we want to be “wise as a serpent and harmless as a dove”.
Please be mindful of these things. You are invited to listen in your car or bring a pop-up tent for your party. Oh, and you might need a jacket too as the coolness of the evenings has increased.
If the musicians choose to cancel we will post it on Hemphill Community Center and Black Sheep Bakery Facebook pages at least two hours before the event. It was cold last Friday but the pickers picked anyway. Hearty folk, those pickers and singers.
We are so thankful for all the volunteers and to the Black Sheep (Evelyn and Mary) who work cheerfully, tirelessly, and efficiently keeping the dough rolled and rolling in.
You can bring the children to do their schoolwork if you don’t have a good Internet connection. We ask that a responsible adult accompany the children and see to them. The pavilion with its lights and fans will enable comfort and social distance. WiFi available 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days per week. You are welcome!
“Because all our children are above average.” Garrison Keiller
We have felt compelled to shut down our dining room to indoor dining. Folks can now dine in our outdoor shelter spaces and still social distance. We will re-open the inside dining room when we can be surer of health and wellbeing for all. So sorry for the inconvenience. Masks and social distancing required please. If you are experiencing a fever or other symptoms, please don’t get out and about. Be careful! The life you save may be your own.
Reminder . . . the Sacred Harp Singing which is usually held at Southeast Community College (four shape) will take place once per month on the second Sunday of each month at Hemphill Community Center until the pandemic is over. Come join us and sing. It does the heart good.
The new pavilion provides us with a place for family gatherings and outside marketing of goods made or grown in our community can also happen on Saturday mornings. If you see folks out there peddling their wares stop and check it out. Please feel free to schedule outside events when you need to. We ask the scheduling to omit Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., as we want to encourage a neighborhood marketplace for cottage industry and entrepreneurial pursuits. We have a vision to boost the economy through tourism and cottage industry. Hopefully you will add us to your list of stops on Saturday mornings since the bakery is open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Due to the coolness of the weather the Narcotics Anonymous meeting will no longer be meeting at Hemphill Community Center until further notice. We will update you as we have new information.
If you are interested in T-shirts and aprons check out our merchandise page website above. You can purchase online.
We have updated the menu on Facebook. Please check that out. Don’t forget if you want to ensure you get what you need, please call and place an order with us by Monday evening the week you need it. That way we will have a heads up and can plan our week for maximum efficiency to make your request. We want our products to be fresh so we do not make things days ahead. We do not use preservatives therefore we cannot make things much ahead. Our GMO-free products are made by hand the ancient way. Our breads and pastries take all day to make. Many of them are made from fermentation methods that take 24 hours or more.
Holiday mornings we will always be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. to allow folks to pick up special orders and things we have on hand. Please do not try to order online. We cannot check messages if we are really busy. Call (971) 867-4337 to order please. If there is no answer call back please. We do not have call waiting. Sorry for the inconvenience.
