Diana, Lee Roy Combs mark 23rd anniversary

My sympathy to the family of Ray Back of Blackey. He died at Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital on May 30. Ray was such a nice person. He will be missed by a lot of people. His wife, Beulah, has been having health problems also. Ray was 86.

B.J., Shanna, Emmy, and Gavin Adams of Carcassonne went to Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and also to Knoxville so the kids could go through the zoo. They had a good time. Miss Em like the big slide at the pool where they were staying most of all.

I want to wish my husband, Lee Roy, a happy anniversary. It’s on June 9. We have been married 23 years.

Sue Jent of Carcassonne and some of her family spent Memorial weekend in Tennessee. She said they had a good trip but she came back with a sunburn.

The Appalshop at Whitesburg is displaying quilts in its gallery during its 21st Seedtime on the Cumberland Festival and my nephew, Gary Fugate of Carcassonne, has one on display that he quilted. So if you get a chance, go by and see it. He did a very good job.

I got an email from Jim Cornett recently asking about Blackey Day. He said he is going to set up a booth to sell his books. He has written 18 books and one is titled Growing Up In Blackey. He is also going to be in Whitesburg June 8 and 9 at the Seedtime on the Cumberland Festival.

Don’t forget about the kickoff to the Seedtime on the Cumberland Festival with oldtime singing and shouting to be held at the Old Indian Bottom Church on Rte. 7 at the Frog Pond It will be on Wednesday, June 6, starting at 7 p.m. Please bring a covered dish to share.
