Blackey Day a success

We, the Blackey Improvement Committee, want to thank everyone for coming out and making Blackey Day a success.

Friday, the weather was a little iffy with some rain, but Saturday was cloudy and cool and I didn’t hear anyone complain.

The music was great as always. The music is so well planned it looks effortless, but I know how much time Violet Watts puts into making it look like that.

The food booths were outstanding and I ate something from every one, and we thank them for setting up for us.

The craft booths were the best we’ve ever had. They had so many beautiful and unusual gifts and the talent of these people amazes me. That’s what we like to do, to show the talent we have in these mountains. We hope they will come back next year.

We had such a large crowd Friday evening and all day Saturday, and we so thank you.

Ike Adams, you wrote such a good piece in the paper about Blackey Day Festival in the paper that I don’t have to say much else except we have been telling everyone what a good little festival we have.

I personally spoke to people from Indiana, West Virginia, Texas, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Michigan, Rose Ballard from Ohio, Buck Whitaker from Bakersville, Calif., and Tennessee.

This is why we work so hard, to keep Blackey Day going. It is like a family reunion that every age can enjoy.

We might have to have fundraisers to keep it going in 2016, but we can and will. We have a very dedicated committee that wants to make it the best it can be.

We have so many people to thank for their donations to our silent auction, and people who sent donations. Without their support we could not have our festival.

We want to especially thank Mike Caudill, CEO of MCHC, for their generous donation of the inflatables for the children, and his and Joy’s visit to our festival.

State Representative Leslie Combs, you always give a generous donation, but what is so special is your visit to Blackey Day.

Thanks to WYMT for airing our little festival, and as always, thanks to Shirley Sexton, WXKQ and the Round Table, and The Mountain Eagle, for helping get the word out.

From all of Blackey Improvement Committee and the Blackey Day Festival, we thank everyone for their donations and their support, and for their visits to Blackey Day.

We hope to see you all on Oct. 7 and 8 in 2016.
