Blackey Day set

Blackey

Blackey Day is Friday and Saturday, Oct. 10 and 11. Friday, starting at 2 p.m., craft and food booths will be open by 2 p.m. Music will start by 5 p.m., and go through 7 p.m. Saturday, starting at 9 a.m., and going through 7 p.m., will be backto back music.

Violet Watts does an exceptional job scheduling the entertainment. She always has the best.

I know I’m looking forward to hearing several of the bands play. The band Long Shot from Mac Arts will be there again this year. You’ve got to hear this band if you like old timey rock and roll.

We have relocated the stage near the old water plant. It looks so good. It’s as if it’s always been there. They have done a lot of work to the stage and it looks real good.

This will be Blackey Improvement Committee’s 50th year. It was established in 1964, so Blackey Day has been around a long time.

Letcher County Tourism and artist Doug Adams are supposed to have Blackey’s mural ready by then. We are looking forward to that.

We will have the silent auction, which is always fun. They are having a cornhole and horseshoe tournament.

Something different this year is we will have the inflatables for the children and it’s free, and so is all the music entertainment. We will have the big tent to sit under, listen to the music, visit with friends and family.

Our little festival has grown over the last years and we are so grateful that people come to our little wide place in the road called Blackey, Kentucky. People scattered all over the country have precious memories of Letcher County and Blackey. I know I am proud to be from Blackey.

So we all invite you to come home to Letcher County, Blackey, for our Blackey Day Festival, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 10 and 11.

We have an excellent variety of craft and food booths. We have a lot of talented people in our area, also.

We ask that all craft and food booths be set up by 12 noon on Friday, Oct. 10, as we will be opening at 2 p.m. We will have paid security Friday and Saturday night, so you don’t have to worry about your booths.

So mark your calendars in big, red letters for Blackey Day Festival on the 50th year. This one will be special.

Wanda Whitehead is having a photo contest, and we will have quite a bit going on, so plan on being there.
