March is here already and thankfully, we survived the winter.
The Blackey Improvement Committee is scheduled to have our first planning and election committee meeting Tuesday, March 18, at 6 p.m. at the Blackey Library. This is a very special year for the Blackey Improvement Committee. Blackey Days will celebrate its 50th year. It was established in 1964.
We are going to have to work real hard to have a better festival than we had last year, and that one was the best ever. But our committee is really good about coming up with new and good ideas.
If you want to join our committee and you want to work, we would love to have you because to have a good festival requires a lot of work from our members.
It is such an enjoyment when it’s all done, and everyone is having fun with the music, dancing, visiting family and old friends, and making new friends, that you look forward to seeing it every year. It’s all worth it; that’s what it’s all about.
We have space for 26 craft booths. I already have 10 reserved, and we have spaces for eight food booths. If you want to reserve a space, call 606-634-2530. Last year I had a waiting list that I didn’t have room for, and I don’t want to leave anyone out.
The price is the same, $15 for craft space and $25 for food space, with a $25 clean up fee for the food spaces that will be refunded if they’re cleaned up.
I know Oct. 11–12 is a long way off, but we started working on Blackey Day 2014 in December 2013.
We have the most talented people in eastern Kentucky and we want to display as much of their work as we can. So far we have had some of the best of talent displayed.
We have plans for a 50th celebration with a lot of entertainment going on, so it’s not too early to mark your calendar for Oct. 11 and 12 for Blackey Day.
