Kentucky State Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred just before 9 p.m. Friday in Blackey.
The shooting occurred on KY 588 and apparently stemmed from a family dispute. Chad Bolling, 37, has been arrested and lodged in the Letcher County Jail on charges of murder and first-degree wanton endangerment. Bolling is accused of shooting his stepson, 26-year-old Zachery Back of Blackey.
Kentucky State Police said they were called to the home just before 9 p.m. after a 911 call reporting that a man had been shot. On arrival, a trooper found Back dead, and located Bolling in a another nearby residence. Trooper Matt Gayheart, public information officer for KSP Post 13 in Hazard, said the initial investigation shows the two men had been involved in a verbal dispute throughout the day, and Bolling alleged that it had turned violent, which led to the shooting.
Detective Eric Caldwell is in charge of the investigation.
