The Blackey Improvement Committee Blackey Day Festival wants to thank everyone who came and supported our dinner show play, “The 50’s, the Way We Were.”
It was performed twice in June at the community center and was sold out both times. Then the Stuart Robinson alumni had the show performed for their Saturday evening entertainment.
We really thank them for their support. It was quite a success.
Richard Smith wrote the play and put a lot of work into it, and the now famous Playing Possum Band, is made up of John Hugo Back, Brian Campbell, Darlene Campbell, Libby Smith, Denise Bates, Angie Miles, and they are the best, April Back Stevens, Jennifer and Malcolm Wilson, Victoria Richardson, Destiny Flynn, and the children’s marching band.
All the Improvement Committee members who were in the play and the rest of the members who worked cooking the food, and a special thank you to Paul from Calvary and his family. They are always willing to help with whatever we have going on.
All these people who helped with this project were volunteers. We live in a good community.
We also want to thank all the committee for the work they’ve done at the benefit show on Saturday, Aug. 13, at the community center. This group of entertainers donated their time and talents to make a benefit show for the Blackey Improvement Committee Blackey Day Festival, so we could put on the kind of festival we have had in the past.
All proceeds from the show and concession went toward the Blackey Day Festival, so they give a big thank you to Shane Stamper and Sunrise Ridge, Mountain Melody and Gary Joseph and the Country Troubadours.
They all did an excellent job and we look forward to hearing you again at the Blackey Day Festival, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 7 and 8.
We have a line-up of the very best music and craft and food booths. I don’t know about you, but I look forward and can’t wait for Blackey Days. It is the best.
You really don’t want to miss this one, so make plans to be there. Come home to the mountains. See you soon.
Thank you all so much for your support of all the festivals and events in our area. Doris Caudill Adams, 606-634-2530.
