I am sorry once again for the absence of my piece in last week’s paper. Life just takes over sometimes. I am sure you know how that goes.
My grandma, Lucy Halcomb Blair, was moved into ICU and I spent many hours at the hospital. Thankfully, they have now moved her back into a regular room. There is a possibility she may get to come home sometime this week. We will be so glad to have her come home. She has been sick for far too long.
Several family members made the trip home this past week to be with Grandma while she was so ill, Edna and Jr. Helton, Mattie Adams, Steve and Marcie Blair, Mary Goff , and David Allen and Joy Faye Blair. As always we were glad to see each of them. I only wish it had been under different circumstances.
All of her children that live locally, many extended family members and friends were there with us at the hospital as well. Thanks to everyone who came to be with us and sent up prayers for Grandma. We appreciate it more than you could ever know.
Jake Halcomb had to have his spleen removed on the 8th. According to his daughter, Jamie Collins, he is doing a lot better. We are very thankful for that.
Mom, Sylvania Whitaker, is doing OK right now. Dialysis is rough on her, but she has an appointment in March to be evaluated for another transplant. She had an appointment this week but due to the snow wasn’t able to keep it. She was really disappointed, but we are trying to stay positive. Things will work out in the end. I know they will. She is too strongwilled to give up, and even if she wanted to she has five stubborn children to keep her in check.
On Feb. 13, my husband Michael, our boys, and I went to the anniversary gettogether for Lois and Lovell Blair. It was nice. There were many people there to wish them a happy 50th anniversary. Thanks for inviting us to attend.
I would like to send out belated happy birthday wishes to Montana Combs and Steve Blair on Feb. 7; Jessica Reuss Roop, Feb. 8; Gary L. Eldridge and Kharmin Johnson, Feb. 9; Annette Pollard, Derrick Watts, and Lena Dixon, Feb. 10; Breanne Adams, Feb. 14; Sidney Hensley, Feb. 15; and Dawn Marie Emmons, Feb. 16.
Danna and Benjie Smith celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on Feb. 14. Happy anniversary! I hope you have many more happy years together.
Because of the bad weather, the spaghetti dinner fundraiser that was scheduled for Feb. 12 had to be postponed. As of now, the fundraiser will be held at Blair Branch Church in Jeremiah on Feb. 19, starting at 10 a.m. The meal will include spaghetti, salad, roll, dessert and drink for $5. All proceeds will go to Ty Colley. Ty is the four-year-old son of Martin and Monica Colley who is battling cancer. Please come out and help support this family.
If I have left anyone or anything out, just let me know and I will get you next week. I hope everyone has a healthy and happy week. If you would like to contact me, you may do so at alanacouch@ tvscable.com.
