Bobby Shepherd dies in Texas

Bobby Ray Shepherd, 71 of Nederland, Tex., died December 3, at Triumph Town and Country Hospital in Houston. Funeral services were held December 6 in Nederland.

A native of Linefork, he was a son of the late Phillip and Louise Shepherd, and the widower of Martha Shepherd.

He was a brother of the late Donald Shepherd and a stepfather of the late Jerry Henley.

Shepherd had lived in Nederland since 1961, where he was a salesman with McLaury’s, Conn’s, and was retired from Sears.

He was a basketball star in the ’60s, playing on the 1956 state champion team for Carr Creek High School, for Kingdom Come, and for the University of Kentucky, and later transferred to Lamar University.

He is survived by a daughter, Kim Maxwell and husband Shaun of Houston, Tex.; a son Mike Newton and wife Janet of Round Rock, Tex.; two brothers, James E. Shepherd of Salvisa, Richard Shepherd of Cincinnati, Oh.; a daughter-in-law, Wanda Henley of Weatherford, Tex.; four sisters, Nadine Cornett of Richmond, Lorraine Dawson of Chicago, Ill., Bille Sue Wiggins of Cincinnati, Oh., and Imogene Barnes of Milford, Oh.; and four grandchildren, Taylor, Trevor, and Taryn Newton and Molly Kate Maxwell.
