A 39-year-old Whitesburg man has been charged with second-degree terroristic threatening after he told a hospital security guard that he had a bomb in his book bag.
Robert Bentley, of 48 High Street, was standing outside Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital (ARH) on September 23 when he began to show security guard Peggy Hamilton the items in his bag, according to information in an arrest citation. Hamilton said Bentley told her four times that a bomb was in his book bag.
Bentley confessed to making the comments, but said he was joking, according to court documents.
Bentley remains in the Letcher County Jail. His bond is set at $10,000 cash and home incarceration.
A preliminary hearing for Bentley is set for 1 p.m. on October 2.
