Boone Fork Center had busy month

Hello to everyone from the Boone Fork Center. We hope you all had a great month in May.

We kept busy last month. May 5, we took a shopping trip to Wise, Va., and went to the steak house in Norton, and had a really good day.

May 7, we honored all the mothers for Mother’s Day with flowers to plant. Fridays are always Bingo days, and everyone seems to enjoy it a lot.

May 13 was the Senior Games. Letcher County cheerleaders took first place. We are so proud of them. Also winning their events were Bill Blair, Katherine Oden and Victor Mullins from our center.

We had our potluck on May 20, and had a great day with music from our own bluegrass band. We really appreciate these guys for doing this. They do an excellent job.

We had a ceremony for Elder Abuse Awareness, and Magistrate Wayne Fleming joined us for the ceremony. We appreciate Wayne very much.

We also celebrated birthdays for six of our seniors. They are: Ruth Fulton, Lillie Mullins, Sarah Yonts, Polly Potter, Gladys Adams and Dorothy Jean Bentley. We hope your birthdays were all you hoped for. May God bless you always.

We also want to thank Brian from Community Trust Bank for the beautiful birthday cake. Brian is a blessing to all of us at the Boone Fork Center.

We went to Letcher County Central High School May 25 to see the play they performed, ‘The Wizard of Oz.’ It was outstanding. All of the young people did such a good job. We loved it.

Afterward we went to Pizza Hut for lunch, so we had a great day.

Our prom was May 28 at the Shriners Building. We really enjoyed it. Ed and Betty Bentley were voted King and Queen for our center. Betty was presented with a bouquet of flowers, and Ed received a gas card from Food City. We appreciate the county and its workers for getting this together, it was very nice and the food was delicious.

We also lost one of our seniors this month. Margie Kiser died May 12. Margie was such a sweet person. You know people pass on, but their memory lives on in our hearts, as Margie will in ours. To her family, we want you to know our sympathy and warmest thoughts are with you now.

We hope everyone had a nice Memorial Weekend spent with family and loved ones, and that we all remembered the veterans and soldiers who keep our country safe and put their lives on the line every day so that we might live ours in freedom. We are blessed to have our military protecting us.

We also enjoyed having Autumn Campbell come up to the center and do some manicures. Thanks, Autumn. Come back soon!

That’s about all of our news for now. So until next time, be safe and God bless us all.
