Boys (and girls) of spring return







Letcher County Central High School’s Jordan Short fired a fastball to the plate Monday evening during Letcher Central’s opening day win over the visiting Pound Wildcats. Sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s brought a large crowd out to Letcher Central for the opener of the 2011 season, which saw Short pitch five strong innings, surrendering four runs on seven hits, two walks and a pair of homeruns. Short struck out six Wildcat batters in the 13-5 win. The Lady Cougars softball team also came away with a win Monday, defeating Allen Central 10-0. The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers fell on the road, losing at Clintwood, 8-3, and the Jenkins Cavaliers boys fell to Pike Central, 8-5, on opening day. (Photo by Chris Anderson)
