Boys set to play last 3 scheduled



The 14- 11 Letcher Central Cougars wrap up their season with three straight games beginning Thursday evening against 17-5 Breathitt County. The Cougars host 15-7 Buckhorn Feb. 18, and then close out the regular season against 12-7 Pike County Central Feb. 20.

The boys’ 53rd District Tournament gets underway the week of Feb. 24 in Hindman at Knott County Central.

For the first time this week, the 14th Region has three teams ranked in the top 25 — Knott County Central, Perry County Central and Hazard.

The regional tournament will be at Perry County Central.

The host Hazard Bulldogs built a huge early lead and then coasted to the easy 67-53 victory, their fifth straight, over the visiting Cougars Feb. 4.

Hazard, now 17-6 and ranked 25th this week, saw its winning streak ended at Perry County Central Feb. 7.

Hazard, led by 16 points and nine rebounds from 6-7 senior Chris Hudson, led 18-8 after the first quarter, 31-22 at the half and 50-31 after three quarters. Senior Josh Hollan added 15 points.

Senior forward Josh Owens led 14-11 LCCHS with a game-high 19 points. Senior guard Chippy Frazier finished with 16 points and sophomore forward Tyler Collins added 10. Torell Carter and Hunter Hall scored four points each.
