Breedings welcome new baby

Jeremiah

James Earl and Alex Adams Breeding are proud new parents of a baby boy. He was born on Aug. 10, and his name is Porter Riley. Terry and Pam Adams and Bobby and Ann Breeding are the grandparents, and Jeanette Adams of Blair Branch is one of the greatgrandparents.

Patsy, Barb, and little T.J. Howard of Atlanta, Ga., were in last weekend for the annual memorial at the Caudill Cemetery at Red Star. They stayed from Thursday night until Sunday, and while here, T. J. caught a big catfish while fishing in the river. He got to sit in a tractor-trailer coal truck and toot the horn, and was hoping to see a train get loaded at the coal tipple. Things we see almost daily amaze kids who don’t get to see or do them often.

I think Barb said that he was in the second or third grade. They took pictures so T.J. could show his classmates what he did while in Kentucky.

Our sympathy goes out to the family of Iona Bailey Adams, who died last week. She wasn’t feeling well the last time I was at the nursing home, and her sister was staying with her. She was laid to rest in the Hiram Bailey Cemetery on Crases Branch on Sunday.

Corsie Collins also died last Friday. She always seemed to be such a friendly lady and our sympathy goes out to the Croucher and Collins families during their sorrow.

Used to, you would see Bill and Corsie at many meetings and local functions in the Blackey and Letcher areas, and they stayed active in the community until their health began to fail.

Homer and Ruth Smith and Anthony recently attended the Hampton reunion. I think it was held in Ohio.

On Aug. 22, we had a household shower for William and Lyndci Adams Gilliam who were married on a recent trip to Colorado. She received many useful gifts and appreciated all they got. Lyndci is Jerry and Bonita Adams’s daughter.

There was also a baby shower held that evening for Jocelyn and Dennis Watts. A large crowd attended and brought many gifts for the baby-to-be.

The children of the late Dock and Dixie Smith recently got together in Ohio, except for Charles. June came down from Michigan, Julia ‘Jukie’ came in from Colorado Springs, and Doyle, Danny and Dempsey live in Ohio. They drove to West Virginia to see their brother, Charles, and stayed a few hours with him.

Doyle said Danny is doing better after having finished his cancer treatments, and the family enjoyed their visit together.

Former Letcher Countian L.D. Hampton died in Georgia. He was a brother to Relon Hampton and Betty Hatton.

Jimmie Faye Caudill hasn’t been feeling well and was taken to the hospital from Letcher Manor. Sorry I had her down as a Hampton recently, I do make mistakes now and then.

We were glad to hear that Bonnie Adams won first place in two categories at the recent Kentucky State Fair. She entered a wedding cake and a birthday cake, and won for both.

She and Martin Joe’s daughter, Jane, are attending the University of Kentucky. She spent the summer working in Hawaii and living with Jason and Brooke Adams Ison.

Martin and Bonnie spent a couple of weeks visiting Jason and Brooke awhile back in the summer, and Ronald and Susan Ison recently returned from visiting in Hawaii with Jason and Brooke.
