Work on a highway bridge over the North Fork of the Kentucky River at Mayking is expected to be finished in about two months.
Chuck Childers, Highway District 12 Section Engineer, said work on the northbound lane of the U.S. 119 bridge was finished Tuesday and that work on rebuilding the southbound lane was expected to start today (Wednesday).
The construction will take about two more months to complete, Childers said.
“For the most part, people have been patient and understanding,” Childers said. “This was supposed to be a simple deck replacement, but once the old deck was removed, we uncovered structural damage that could not be seen before work started. We had to change the project from a bridge deck replacement to a bridge replacement, which takes much longer.”
