Bridges on KY 15 scheduled for work

Drivers going in the direction of Lexington may soon encounter some delays on KY 15.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has awarded a contract for repairs totaling nearly $4.6 million on 11 bridges along the KY 15 corridor in Breathitt, Knott and Perry counties.

The contract is for cleaning, painting and minor repairs of one bridge in Breathitt County, eight bridges in Perry County and two bridges in Knott County along KY 15.

“KY 15 is a major thoroughfare for eastern Kentucky and it is vital that we keep the bridges along this busy highway in good repair,” said Governor Ernie Fletcher. “By investing in this and similar maintenance and repair projects, we can ensure that this road adequately serves the public for years to come.”

North Star Painting Company, Inc., was awarded the low-bid contract for $4,596,480. The scheduled completion date for all 11 bridges is Aug. 31, 2008.

Construction activities are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to “Drive Smart” in work zones and be aware of workers, traffic control devices and construction equipment when traveling in areas where projects are ongoing.
