Bruce Gilley celebrates 77th birthday

Blackey

Happy birthday to Bruce Gilley Sr. of Doty Creek. He turned 77 on July 9. His family had a dinner at for him at Carr Creek Lake on July 6. Afterward Bruce and his wife, Shirley, and their son, Zolie, went to Tennessee to stay with one of their other sons, Rickey Gilley, and his family.

Dare Back of Letcher, had to be taken to the emergency room at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital. She had fluid built up in her stomach. She came home that same evening and is doing well.

I have a lot of birthdays this month so happy birthday to Jordan Caudill of Premium who turned 16 on July 10, Jacquie Banks of Doty Creek on July 5, my nephew Joshua Dixon turns 19 on July 27, Craig Abbinanti has one on July 31, and a very special birthday wish for my son Justin. He turns 18, also on July 31.

Courtney Adams of Blair Branch, had to be taken to Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. He was in Hazard ARH. The valve he has in his chest from open heart surgery was infected. They took care of that and he was doing some better. His son-inlaw, Richard Brown, is in the hospital; he has pneumonia.

The Blackey Missionary Baptist Church will have Vacation Bible School on Thursday, July 17, and Friday, July 18, from 6 till 8:30 p.m., then on Saturday, July 19, from 9:30 a.m. 12 noon. A hot picnic will follow. Everyone is welcome to come join them for games food and fun. They will run a bus.

My son, Justin, and I went to Blackey Day for a little while on Saturday but didn’t stay long. It was just too hot. The Blackey Missionary Baptist Church was selling very nice cookbooks for $10 that have a lot of good recipes and some old pictures of Blackey in them. They have some left to sell. If anyone wants to buy one, you can contact any members of the church or let me know and I’ll see that you get one.
