Busy grand jury returns more indictments

The Letcher Grand Jury has named 10 people in 11 indictments. Those indicted are:

• Sharon Kay Collins, 42, of P.O. Box 588, Whitesburg, and 3820 Hwy. 931 N, Whitesburg, who is charged with first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (first offense, methamphetamine), public intoxication (excludes alcohol), tampering with physical evidence, use or possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.

Kentucky State Trooper Brandon Watts testified in the case.

• Melissa Ann Evans, 49, of 51 Goldenrod Drive, Thornton, who is charged with first-degree promoting contraband (methamphetamine) while confined in the Letcher County Jail.

• Carlos R. Bentley, 42, 1728 Doty Creek, Jeremiah, who is charged with possession of a handgun by convicted felon, operating a vehicle with suspended or revoked license, no/expired registration plates, no/ expired registration receipt, failure of non-owner/operator to maintain required insurance/security, failure to produce insurance card, failure to wear seatbelt and failure to register transfer of motor vehicle.

• April Anita Baker, 41, also known as April Anita Pease, of 352 Pine Creek, Mayking, who is accused of first-degree criminal complicity with Anita Vickie Baker to trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine, second offense), second-degree criminal complicity with Anita Vickie Baker to trafficking in a controlled substance (Buprenorphine, second offense), criminal complicity with Anita Vickie Baker to trafficking in a controlled substance (marijuana, second offense) and use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

• Joshua F. Caudill, 26, of 195 Pistol City, Whitesburg, who is charged with first-degree burglary of the residence of Linda Briles and theft by unlawful taking of a Smith & Wesson .38 caliber handgun belonging to Linda Briles.

• Marv Wayne Hubbard, 49, of P.O. Box 1784, Pound, Va., and 19 Solomon Road, Whitesburg, who is charged with theft by deception by issuing 12 checks to Whitaker Bank drawn on his closed account with First Bank & Trust Company and a check on his closed account with BB&T Bank in the total amount of $2,800.

In a separate indictment, Hubbard is accused of first-degree bail jumping for failure to appear for a scheduled preliminary hearing in Letcher District Court in a pending felony proceeding.

Lisa Slone, of the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney 47th Judicial Circuit, testified in the case.

• Cindi Shaylyn Fryman, 35, is charged with first-degree bail jumping for failure to appear for a scheduled arraignment in Letcher Circuit Court in a pending felony proceeding.

Kristi Skeens, Secretary of the Office of the Letcher Commonwealth Attorney, testified in the case.

• Mersades Nicole Sturgill, 26, of 125 Sycamore Loop, Jeremiah, is charged with first-degree bail jumping for failure to successfully complete inpatient substance abuse treatment and/or failure to keep all required court appearances.

• Eulis A. Adams, II, 49, of 121 W. Pierson St., Apt. 2, Greenfield, Ind., is charged with flagrant nonsupport of his minor child(ren) and being a first-degree persistent felony offender.

Tammi Collier, of the Letcher County Division of Child Support Enforcement, testified in the case.

• John Dakota Ritchie, 26, of 130 No. 6 Hollow, Jenkins, is charged with flagrant nonsupport of his minor child(ren).
