Cable thefts continue

Thieves are continuing to steal telephone lines in Letcher and Knott Counties for the copper they contain.

AT&T spokesperson said 400 feet of cable containing an estimated 622 pounds of copper was cut down and stolen March 19 on Highway 15, about 15 miles from Whitesburg.

Cathy Lewandowski, senior public relations manager of AT&T Strategic Communications, said fiber cable was cut which caused temporary service interruption. Lewandowski did not know how many customers were affected, but said service was restored as quickly as possible.
