Can Meade succumbs at 90




Can Martin Meade, 90, died May 26 at his home at Jackhorn.

Born in Letcher County to the late William Henry and Martha Bentley Meade, he was a brother of the late William Henry Meade, Grover Meade, Quiller Meade, Chandis Meade, Buford Meade, Conley Meade, Ruth Strange, Beulah Tackett and Florida White.

He was a coal miner and a member of the Church of Christ for more than 40 years, and enjoyed hunting and gardening.

Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Hazel Fleming Meade; a son, Linville Meade and wife Gaye of Jackhorn; a brother, Rush Meade of Virgie; two grandchildren, Chris Meade and Mitchell Meade; five greatgrandchildren, Ashlea Meade, Alicia Meade, Walker Meade, Andrew Meade and Denzil Meade; and a great-grandchild, Leland Peterson.

Funeral services for Mr. Meade were held May 30 at Carty Funeral Home in Neon. Burial was in the Haven of Rest Cemetery at Mayking.
