Three members of the Whitesburg City Council recently filed to run for reelection in the Nov. 2 General Election.
James W. “Jimmy” Bates and Shelia Shortt returned their papers to the Letcher Court Clerk’s Office on July 14. Robin Bowen-Watko filed her papers on July 15.
Several other men and women have picked up papers to run for office, but have not returned them to make their candidacy offi ciall. Incumbents picking up papers include Neon Mayor Susan Polis, Neon City Council Member Cheryl Furby, Whitesburg City Council Member John R. Williams, Jenkins City Councilman Terry Braddock, Letcher County Board of Education Member Dr. Sam Quillen Jr., and Jenkins Independent Board of Education Member Eileen Sanders.
Ellis Keyes, who ran for county judge/executive in the May Primary Election, picked up papers to run for a seat on the Letcher County Board of Education.
G.C. Kincer has picked up papers showing his interest in running for mayor of Jenkins. Kedrick “Ked” Sanders has picked up papers to run for Jenkins City Council.
Deadline to file is 4 p.m. on Aug. 10.
