Funeral services for Virginia Carolyn Ison Gilliam, 70, of Cumberland, were held May 17 at the Little Cowan Primitive Baptist Church. Burial was in the Hop Gibson Cemetery at Cowan.
A daughter of the late Cassel and Beulah Gibson Caudill, she died May 15 at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital. She was a sister of the late Stuart Sigrest, George Sigrest, and Emma Campbell.
Mrs. Gilliam was a member of the Little Cowan Primitive Baptist Church, Cowan Commu- nity Homemakers, Women’s Auxiliary, and White Shrine. She served as a volunteer grandparent and was a columnist for The Mountain Eagle, The Cousins, and the Community Press.
Surviving are her husband, Bethel Gilliam; two sons, Robert Irvin Ison and wife Carla Slone, and Earnest Franklin Ison and wife Diana, all of Little Cowan; three daughters, Janice Kae Fisher and husband David, Little Cowan; Doris Vern Collins of Little Cowan and husband Robert of Buck Creek; and Donna Vae Watts and husband Mike, Roxana; a stepson, Wayne Gilliam, Speedwell, Tenn.; three stepdaughters, Joan Lewis, College Corner, Ind.; Sheila Hall, Cumberland; and Sharon Parks, Memphis, Ind.; a brother, Robert Caudill, Little Cowan; three sisters, Thelma Ison, Flemingsburg; Susan Stamper, Lexington; and Janice Wolad, Maryland; 11 grandchildren, Robbie Ison Jr., Rachel Fields, Jessica Cook, Dillon Fisher, Frederick Eversole, Morgan Eversole, Micca Watts, Michael Watts, Raven Ison, Dylan Bentley, and Ryan Bentley; and two greatgrandchildren, Lexi Santana and Jessie Creedence Cook.
Letcher Funeral Home had charge of arrangments.
