Despite a 37-point performance by sophomore guard Torell Carter, the visiting Letcher County Central High School Cougars fell 73-57 at Perry County Central on January 22.
LCCHS trailed 16-8 after the first quarter, 38-23 at the half and 54-37 after three quarters.
Carter, who gets most of his points penetrating and either scoring or getting to the free throw line, converted 12/18 from the charity line. He also claimed a game-high nine rebounds.
Junior Tyler Collins chipped in with 12 points and 7 rebounds for the 11-7 Cougars. Austin Banks and Hunter Hall finished with three points and Jordan Gregory wound up with two points.
Junior guard Braxton Beverly’s 25 points led the 16-6 Commodores. Damon Tobler had 21 points and seven rebounds.
Both teams shot the basketball very well with LCCHS making 20/42 field goal attempts for 48 percent. The Commodores converted 28/59 field goal attempts for 47 percent.
The Cougars visit district foe Jenkins tomorrow ( Thursday) night. LCCHS hosts Hazard on February 3 before traveling to Union, Va., on February 6.
