Cavaliers, Cougars compete in state cross-country meets


The Jenkins High School Cavaliers girls’ cross country team (above, left) competed in the KHSAA Girls’ Cross-Country Championships held this past Saturday at Kentucky Horse Park near Lexington. The Lady Cavs competed in the Class 1A meet. Competing in the Class 2A title meet, also held at the Horse Park, were the Letcher County Central Cougars boys’ and girls’ teams. Representing Jenkins in the 5K event were (from left) Delaney Johnson, Brianna Turner, Arianna Bentley, Abigail Bentley, Katelin Mullins, and Makala Stambaugh. Competing for the LCC girls’ team were (above right, bottom row from left) Abigail McDougal, Grace McDougal, Kandace Collins, Kaylee Banks, Kandis Jenkins, Hope Roark, and Abby Little, who is not pictured. Runners on the LCC boys’ team were (back row, from left) Matthew Morris, Isaiah Adams, Cayden Reeves, Seth Perry with Jacob Smith on Perry’s shoulders, Javier Polly, Jordan Osborne, and Micah Turner. On October 26, the LCC boys’ team placed first in their region, and were led by Javier Polly, who placed first overall, Matthew Morris, who placed second, and Jordan Osborne, who finished eighth. The LCC girls finished the region in third place. They were led in the region by Abigail McDougal, who finished 11th, and Hope Roark (13th).
