Cavs are still looking for season’s first win

The Jenkins Cavaliers remain winless this season after losing games last week to Phelps — 89 to 58 in the opening round of the Boys’ 15th Region All “A” Classic at Pikeville on January 15 — and to visiting Jackson City, 108 to 81.

Payton Rose scored 24 points to lead the Cavaliers against Phelps. Jeremy Potter and Austin Johnson each scored nine points, and Anthony Newman contributed seven points. Four Jenkins players — Carter Howard, Justin Helton, Christopher Fields and Keegan Bentley — scored two points, and Jacob Bentley added one point. Trevor Davis, Shannon Bentley, and Landon Rose played but did not score.

Payton Rose again led all Jenkins scorers in the loss to Jackson City with 31 points, 18 of which were the result of hitting on five of 10 field goal attempts from behind the three-point line. John Fleming, Keegan Bentley, and Austin Johnson each scored 12 points. Jeremy Potter connected on all four of his field goal attempts — two twopointers and two three-pointers — for 10 points and Anthony Newman had four points.

The Cavaliers are scheduled to visit Pike County Central on Thursday before traveling to Lee County on Saturday. Tipoff for both games is 7:30 p.m.
