Charles Wayne ‘Sarge’ Sergent, 65, of McRoberts, died Sept. 4.
Born at McRoberts, he was a son of the late John and Ersel Bates Sergent, and was married to the late Linda Bentley Sergent. After her death he married Vivian Burke Sergent, who survives him. He was a brother of the late Margie Kiser, Phyllis Wyatt, Steve Sergent and Estil Sergent.
He was a coal mine electrician, foreman and repairman for 35 years, and taught electrical re-certification to other miners. For the last 11 years, he worked for the Neon Water Company.
An avid computer tech, he rode his motorcycle for worthwhile causes including autism, foster children, and shoes for children. He was a member of the Neon Area Lions Club.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Shannon Bentley and husband Arnold, Yoder, Ind., and Jessica Slone and husband Breman, Hindman; a son, David Sergent and wife Joanna, Humboldt, Tenn.; a grandson, Adam Wayne Bentley; a sister, Linda Cook, Glasgow; a brother, Arthur Sergent, Deane; a stepson, Steven Meeks; two stepdaughters, Karen Wilder and Susan Fields; nine stepgrandchildren, and several step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sept. 7 at the Neon First Church of God. Burial was in the John Bentley Cemetery at Deane.
