Charles T. Lamont succumbs at 92

Charles T. Lamont, 92, of Whitesburg and Louisville, died September 13 in Merritt Island, Fla., where he had been residing.

Born in Omar, W.Va., he was a son of the late William and Lillian Hobbic Lamont and the widower of Nanye Lamont.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, William and Thomas Lamont; a sister, Mary Ellen Greer; two sons-in-law, Robert Martini and Joseph Wyngowski; and his first wife, Betty Lamont Edwards.

Mr. Lamont was a former parishioner of St. Rita, where he attended school and later served as a Boy Scout leader. He was graduated from Okolona High School in 1947 and worked for South Central Bell for 40 years.

He served in the Naval Reserves between 1948 and 1957. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent his retirement camping, boating, and gardening. He was a devoted family man and a superb carpenter.

Surviving are three daughters, Deborah Martini, Deanna Wyngowski, and Denise Lamont ; a son, William Lamont and wife Lisa; three stepchildren, Rick Salyer, Debbie Reinert, and husband John, and Mike Salyer; two sisters, Shirley Miller and Barbara Bailey and husband Ken; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A future funeral will be held at Neon First Church of God in Whitesburg with burial at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Expressions of sympathy should be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital under Charles Lamont Memorial Fund.
