Charlie Smith dies in Indiana



Charlie Smith, 77, of Columbus, Ind., died August 8 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Born in Wentz, he was a son of the late Bob and Bertha Shepherd Smith. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Smith and James Smith, and a sister, Drucilla Smith.

Mr. Smith was employed at Stewart-Warner in Indianapolis, Ind., for many years and at Reliance Electric in Columbus, Ind. He was a member of Elizabethtown Christian Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

He enjoy woodworking, gardening and spending time with his family, especially his grandson, Shane

Survivors include his wife, Serena E. Day Smith; a daughter, Kimberly Lakins and husband Kenny of Scipio, Ind.; a grandchild, Shane Lakins of Scipio, Ind.; brothers, R.D. Day and wife Karen of Portsmouth, Va., Pryor Day and wife Maria of Holland, Tex., and Wayne McDougal and wife Charlett of Whitesburg; sisters-inlaw, Jean Day of Columbus and Jeri Day Wright of Columbus; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held August 12 at the Miles family cemetery at Cowan.

Letcher Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
